Since the demise of the iconic WEDDINGS PARTIES ANYTHING in 1998, MICK THOMAS has barely taken his foot off the pedal for a moment - whether working solo, with his fine band THE SURE THING or on any amount of soundtracks and side projects. Mick has kept busy with his own label, CROXTON RECORDS, there's been numerous tours of the UK and Europe, Beijing, Vietnam and the USA, not to mention a fine list of independently released albums such as the classic DUST ON MY SHOES and the landmark double CD set THE HORSE'S PRAYER.
Mick has been heavily involved in the careers of many other Australian acts such as The Gadflys, The Re-mains, The Waifs, Darren Hanlon, Ruby Hunter, Nick Barker and The Vandas. Add to this his theatre work on the productions OVER IN THE WEST, THE TANK and RUN RABBIT RUN, his musical contribution to the stunning ABC website (also called DUST ON MY SHOES), soundtracks for tele documentaries SHACKS, THE REAL WATER RATS, THE END OF THE GAME and LEFT LUGGAGE and his claims as a constant creative presence are substantial.
Mick's most recent release is a retrospective album, ANYTHINGS, SURE THINGS, OTHER THINGS for the Liberation Blue acoustic series. It combines songs from WEDDINGS, PARTIES, ANYTHING's revered 15-year history, his subsequent band THE SURE THING, and has been described as "a priceless mix of old songs and new tricks".
2006 saw Mick back to the theatre with a re-mounted version of THE TANK and later in the year a stage production of the ABC website Dust on My Shoes - titled DUSTBITES. On the back of his most successful tour with THE SURE THING yet, the end of March had him in the studio for a long awaited album of new material – Paddock Buddy . Now released in Australia and available on Liberation Music. There are trips to Europe on the calendar as well as various shows and festivals around the country.
"Just when you imagine he can't have any more fabulous songs in him, he brings out an album like this ... he is Australia's last true balladeer..."
DJ, Forte Magazine, Geelong (talking about Dust On My Shoes)
" Mick Thomas, lyrically and musically, blows my mind. I inherited some testicular forte from Mick Thomas - more so than anyone he did me a spin, and gave me a lot of confidence"
Tim Rogers, Age EG Interview
"Dust On My Shoes makes you more than glad Mick Thomas has bothered to clock up the miles on his (seemingly) never ending tours as this grimy world would be a lot poorer without his engaging songs of life, love and experience..."
Tim Peacock, Whisperin' & Hollerin', UK
